Blight can transcend beyond biological living beings.
Among the old tribes, he was called “Okaraxta” in a time when the original peoples of this vast land were spiritually connected to the Natural. The Mandan and other tribes perceived the High Sentients as a being or beings, with both equally accurate descriptors. Modern humans—Americans—call his protectorate the ‘Great Plains.’ Human words describe his vastness as the open flatlands devoid of trees occupying the great range between the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachians, north of Texas and south of the grand different of central Canada. Aye, they are truly the long grass seas!
Okaraxta’s meta’en defines what it truly means to be open for the seamless Green here is akin to the great oceans of the Blue. But to be open—to live life unfettered and free—is a life of managing vulnerability and exposure … even to the offerings of the heavens: the rains, the snows, the sunlight, the moonlight, and the light of the stars. That is why the Sky World is central to life there.
The environmental shaping preceding Chaos’s Corruptive campaign started long ago with neither Chaos nor His agents pulling all the levers. Imbalances were created within to erode the Natural Order and such unfortunate manifestations do not happen in one season; they are dozens of seasonal cycles or possibly hundreds in the making. Even without manipulation, natural weather patterns themselves stricken by humankind’s extravagances brought periods of extended drought, but such events can also be triggered, exacerbated, and manipulated to loiter too long. Disruptive and destructive even when absent malice, the Blue-Green biome has already been pushed to a tipping point through mankind’s predisposed impulsions before the onslaught of Chaos’s Corrupted Formless’ winds had even begun.
The desiccating winds were not just the Blue’s usurper. Diminishment of water led to the gross degradation of the Green. With the Green being intersection of elemental water and earth and the foundation of Earth Mother’s “Living Body,” it’s unnatural degradation can leave even the earth, the largely inert foundation of life, blighted.
With the Green’s reduced capacity to support life, even an elemental sentience as powerful as Oxkaraxta is consequently struggles to attain form and is unable to retain the assumption. Without moisture, even the Ourcelium underlying the Natural Network can break down. In such state, their interconnected sentience starts to disassociate, and elementals and other High Sentients can no longer communicate within meta’ens and across meta’ens in the greater Coirea’cen. When so blighted, even mighty elementals feel and remain connected with the Interconnected All. It is the duty of all of Earth Mother’s children to act before the destructive descent is unrecoverable.
If the affliction is multi-vectored and persistent with no effective attempts to disrupt, mitigate, or remediate, even the hard earth can become blighted.
